I'm sick of this Imus crap

I'm gonna get right to the point: Don Imus shouldn't have lost his job! That's right, I said it. Yes I'm a black man; no I'm not an "Uncle Tom" and no I'm not married to a white woman...but someone needs to say what needs to be said. O.J. was guilty, Michael Jackson, if not a pedophile is weird as hell and Imus didn't need to loose his job! Make him issue a public apology; send him to sensitivity training but why take away the man's livelihood and means to provide for his family just because he's an idiot???

What he said was stupid and insensitive but was Jesse Jackson thrown out of his church or did he loose political support when he referred to New York City as "heimy-town"? Does Rush Limbaugh loose a single sponsor whenever he airs any of his off color parodies? No, and they shouldn't! I'm sick of all of this whining and complaining and going on Oprah to cry because someone said something that you didn't like.

Our Constitution guarantees free speech...even if it's insensitive speech. Now, it's against the law to walk into a crowd and yell, "FIRE!" but short of that, people should be able to say whatever they want to say. Others have a constitutional right to retort.

This is just another example of how PATHETICALLY WEAK our society has become (a quote from the Russian trainer in Rocky IV). What happens if we're called upon to fight on our own soil? Haven't you ever seen the movie Red Dawn?! What happens if the events of 911 happen on a larger scale? How can we as a nation be prepared to take on large scale terrorism within our borders when we're too busy cowering in the corner, trembling and crying because someone said something to hurt our little feelings? Get a grip America! Grow some balls!

Am I saying that it's appropriate to say any and everything that you feel when you feel? Absolutely not. There are things called manners and social graces...but please let's get off of the slippery slope of political correctness. Being polite doesn't guarantee that no one will be offended...

Just my thoughts…err ranting for today…

I don't know if I can agree on the O.J. thing. I mean straight up, if O.J.'s old ass comes at me from anywhere, he might get me, might, but his ass is gonna know he was in a brawl. He will be hurting, i assure you.

Meanwhile, you know I agree w/ you on the Imus deal. We talk about it at work all the time. Someone says something stupid, and then they get fired for it. But they have every right to say what they feel(without insighting riot.), how they feel, etc., and if you don't like what they are saying, don't listen. Turn off the radio, or tv, or let a company know I am not buying your product because you sponsor an idiot. Now I do believe that Imus might have been more along the lines of economics than anything. I believe the producers waited to see what the sponsors were going to do, and as each one pulled their dollars it made it that much more easier to escort his ass to the door. Not because of what he said, but because there would be no money.
Same thing with the John Rocker/Atlanta braves situation, I don't even think people should have to take sensitivity training, you should have the right to hate whomever you wish to hate. But you better respect their right to exist as a human being, and if you don't, it is then that they should hang your ass out to dry.

Well, the simple fact is, he was not fired for what he said. The sponsors of his program pulled their ads because they didn't want to be affiliated with that kind of view.

So, the radio company was going to lose ad revenue (a large portion of which goes to Imus' salary).

In this case it was economics. Ad $$ won over free speech.

In regards to the war on American soil. It's already here. Press "1" for English. Think about it. We're going to fall from within because too many people forget the fact that we are American.

There is no such thing as an African-American, or Euro-American, or Irish-American. That is the stupidest bullshit I have ever heard. If you were born in America or have taken the citizenship tests (and passed), then you are an American.Period.

Now, granted, you may be of African descent, or Irish descent. That's cool. Hang on to those values and cultures.

America is the melting pot. When you are making a stew, you put in ingredients....and let the pot simmer. When you eat the stew you don't say that the bite you're eating is the potato-beef stew. No. You're eating Beef stew. That Beef stew has many different elements and flavors that combine to give you a great stew.

Just like when people get their heads out of their asses and start to take pride in being an un-hyphenated American....we'll be a lot stronger as a country.

But that's my take on it.

I think the next big war America fights WILL be on American soil. And it will be tied strongly to illegal immigration. You can't keep givng non-Americans all the benefits of being an American and then not expect them to give a little bit of flavor back to the stew (but that's a rant for a whole other day, I'm sure).

And if we're all not real careful, we may just have to all start listening to a lot more Menudo.
