ARE THEY SERIOUS????
Ok, I’ve not submitted a post for a while because, quite frankly, I haven’t had a reason to rant. But I do today. Are Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton really serious about this universal healthcare crap? PLEASE tell me…I’m BEGGING SOMEONE to tell me that they’re just campaign promises that neither of them actually intend to fulfill. PLEASE!!!
Have you heard the details (though sketchy they may be) of their plans? Barack says that he’s going to end the war and funnel that money into universal healthcare. Um…excuse me! The money that we’re spending on the war in
Now Hillary’s plan is even worse! First off, her plan has a mandate. This means that everyone in
But it gets even worse: Hillary intends to pay for her version of healthcare by not only ending the war (i.e. tax increases) but also by taking profits from tobacco and oil companies. I’m sorry, I don’t care how pissed off you are about having to pay exorbitant gas prices, capitalism is the foundation of our economy and the American way. It is un-American to even consider having the government take profits from a business! Can anyone say COMMUNISM????!!!!
So Barack wants to raise my taxes but Hillary wants to raise my taxes, take away my personal freedoms and then go after American businesses…at the risk of sounding like a conspiracy theorist or of espousing a slippery slope argument, this thing wreaks of the dismantling of the America that I’ve grown up in and love.
Democrat, Republican, Green Party Member or Libertarian…PLEASE don’t let either of these fools in the White House!!!
…Just my thoughts…err ranting for today…

Well, you know me. I'm the one that plays the part of the Liberal at work (when in truth, I consider myself Independent, but no matter).
And I think you've gone off on misinformation.
I read the following which details Obama's healthcare plan...and I have to say-it sounds pretty fucking alright to me.
http://www.barackobama.com/issues/healthcare/
AND...if you read Hillary's plan, it actually sounds VERY similar...and hers even offers a tax cut to citizens.

They both mention Insurance Reform...which really is the key to all of this. People in our country are sick of the Insurance companies dictating when they can go to the doctor and how often they are allowed to be sick.
Anyone that wants to do that has my ear..at least until they say something stupid about something else.
What's funny to me about this whole thing is the number of people that think that the Democrats are the only ones going to raise taxes.
The only method that has 100% effectiveness in raising money for our country is raising taxes. No matter who gets in to office, taxes are going to have to be raised.
We will have a tax increase for the simple reason that we're going to have to pay for King George's party some how.
And to the point on borrowing. Where do you think we're getting the money for these little 'economic stimulus' payouts that the King is sending us? We're borrowing the money. From one of our largest trade partners-China.
Convenient, I guess. We borrow money from the country that has the largest marketshare (since damn near EVERYTHING we buy is from China now)...so we borrow money from them...to spend on things..that are made by them. Not only do they get the money back (with interest, which I'm sure will have to come from taxes or some other federal program that we need)..but then they get the profits when we buy all the shit that's made in China.
If you are not going to vote for anyone that's going to raise your taxes, then you're probably not going to want to vote in November, because whether the war ends or not (and it won't, we're gonna be there at least another 5-10 years regardless of what the candidates say), the President is still going to have to ask the American people to dig deep in to their hearts and their wallets to help bail us out of the single largest deficit left by any president (trillions of dollars in deficit spending on this budget King George proposed-Are you f***ing kidding me??)
BTW, from what I read, both health care plans are not mandatory. If you have an insurance plan you like, keep it. The only mandatory thing I read was for children. And that I'm on board with.
The problem with the populous in this election year is that we're depending on the once trustworthy news outlets to provide us with useful and thought-provoking insight in to the candidates and their platforms.
Shit. The News Media stopped being trustworthy when they spent all day with a live feed on a washed-out, wife killing All American football star driving 30 miles below the speed limit in a white Ford Bronco.
OJ may not have killed his wife, but he damn sure killed journalism.
Anyway, I'd have to say that even you, my conservative brother could probably find something to like about each of the candidates. Hell we all could.
I venture to say that if you put out the proposed 'if i become president' changes and put them on the table with NO indication of who put them together, you'd find that they all pretty much make sense.
The problem is, none of us can look at the plan without looking at the people.
An interesting dilema, to be sure.
And I just want to add....dude-did you really just defend big business?? They don't give a fuck about you. They don't give a fuck about me. They only care about profits. Despite what you've been told, this is NOT a Capitalist society. A true capitalist society would NEVER have lobbyists buying votes in Congress for big business. In a true capitalist society, big business would NEVER get tax breaks and government incentives for moving their businesses out of the country. Fuck that. I want big business to put some of that money back in to my country. If that means tax them..then so be it.
And while we're at it...how about a flat tax income tax based on a percentage of what you make? 10% across the board whether you make 10,000 a year or 10 million...you pay 10% in income taxes. To those whom much is given, much is expected. Do you know that you and I pay more in taxes than many millionaires?? That's ridiculous. So, yeah, lets let big business put some of that fat-cat money back in to the society that gave it to them. It's not communist, it's called taking care of your people.
(sorry, guess I had to end my comment on a rant, too).

David Hume wrote: "It is seldom that liberty of any kind is lost all at once." and Ben Franklin said, “Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both.” Ben's quote could apply both to Bush's Patriot Act as well as to Hillary's Universal HealthCare plan. Believe me my friend, the healthcare WILL be mandatory. Every time the government begins to meddle in the affairs of the citizenry, we inevitably begin to lose our freedoms...and just as Mr. Hume said, it doesn't happen all at once...the loss of liberty happens slowly as not to be obvious...
...and YES I'm taking up for Big Business. Like it or not, without Big Business you wouldn't be able to enjoy life as you currently do. It wasn't until the mega mart came that you didn't have to go to 5 different stores to do your grocery shopping. It wasn't until the super chain stores like Best Buy and Circuit City that you could get a truly competitive price on your favorite toys and gadgets...and it's some Big Business who's probably paying the pension that retirees in both of our families are enjoying. Yes Big Business is greedy and they don’t give a damn about anything but profits but the simple, harsh and undeniable truth is, America was founded on greed, has grown to be a superpower because of greed and will either continue to thrive or go quietly into that good night because of the continuation or discontinuation of greed...it's ugly but it's true!
I can remember shopping at Cardinal Foods...a little mom and pop grocery store in uptown Westerville. We never went to 5 different stores for food.
My parents have always had their own benefits because for as long as I can remember, they had their own business. My mom's company went bankrupt because they weren't greedy. Because they tried to take care of their employees instead of making more money than God.
I will never believe that my lifestyle today is a debt I owe to greed. Our country wasn't founded on greed. It was founded on the principles that enough is enough, and tyranny in any form is unacceptable. This lesson is something that our current commander in chief seems to have forgotten.
As for 'mandating' healthcare-the government already does that with the taxes that get withheld from your pay. This won't be any different from that if it even gets off the congressional floor (which it probably won't). And how is it any different than requiring you to pay into Social Security or Medicare? If you never plan on collecting social security, why should you pay into it?
I think this is one we're going to have to agree to disagree on.
When big business becomes business as usual, we're fucked. What's the point of having an entrepeneurial spirit if you know that it's just going to get squashed by some big business that has a bajillion government tax breaks? We might as well just all resign ourselves to making someone richer besides us, because if the American Way is now based on Greed, we're all screwed. Greed as an economic model is a sure way into a living hell on earth.
Do you realize that Sam Walton's dream for a Wal-Mart in a community was as a way for local manufactures to sell their items in one place? A place where you could buy American. A place that was designed to help communities flourish. Seems like that wasn't based on greed, but on an altruistic desire to help fellow man. It wasn't until he died that the Greed-Model took over.
But this is not a rant I feel like getting in to. For the simple fact that this is one that is too deeply entrenched for each of us. You feel that you are beholden to the Greed of Big Business for allowing you to have everything you want at a cheap, convenient price...and I feel that Big Business is sucking the life and spirit out of the American Dream.
So, I'm guessing we'll have to agree to disagree on this one.
Nothing like a good ol' meaty topic. First the healthcare, I have not looked over the plans but I assume that if you have coverage you will not be affected so I am fine. I understand the purpose of trying to get everyone covered,(i.e. children) and that is fine. This is usually done through the medicare and medicaid programs for those who can not afford coverage. So it would seem that maybe looking in to these programs and possibly making them better would help the situation a great deal. This would remove an insurance company having the ability to deny a needed surgery for example. One thing about the gov't we've learned is how inefficient it is. But I do think we should make all the Insurance companies pay into the medicare and medicaid funds to make sure they are funded as well as through the current taxes that support them. This is what is done for car insurance. All companies must support the state insurance plan for those who can not get coverage with a company. Also another way of funding is to stop giving out federal contracts. If you want to do business with the gov't, then for every dollar of work you do for the gov't you will get a 50 cents on the dollar reduction in your income which will reduce your taxes, maybe even zero them out. But to continue to have fortune 500 companies live off the gov't and gov't only is ridiculous. Which brings me into the second point of big business. If you want to close up shop and go elsewhere fine, but the tariffs that I am going to impose on you will make you wish you had stayed. Big business is a joke to me. Most of these arses are living off of debt anyway and are no different than individuals out here living paycheck to paycheck except theirs is debt refi to debt refi. Used to be the america was 95% business owners and 5% workers, now it is completely reversed. Even our economics is taught in this crazy notion of supply and demand, but the very basis of their model is if there is only one company in the world supplying the product. Greed is a two-edged sword. There are some positive things that come from it and there are alot of negative things that come from it. And E, we have gone over the principal of duality before. This is no different. If demand increases why must only one company increase production, why not have a new company come in with new ideas and innovation to do it better and more efficiently. But, I must agree with Andrew, we do not have capitalism, we subsidize these big fucks way to much, if they make it fine if they don't back to the drawing board. If demand was once there it probably will continue so if one company can't do it right the next one will. Lastly, please stop letting the Fed create our money. This is how we got fucked in the first place. If every dollar you have coming in is immediately hit with interest upon creation that is how we got into this predicament. Cancel them biatchs and let the treasure and congress create the money so we can get back to 5 cents for a loaf of bread.
